Wikipedia is it helpful or not?

Wikipedia is the website that has a lot of information; it is like a big library that owns many different articles and general information. This website is very helpful for the students and the college; many students around the world use this website to help them in their homework, and their research paper. In this website you can find any topic that you would like to know more about like articles, data, pictures, news and any resources. However, the problems are because anyone can put a lot of information and articles in this website, so that means people can find some of this information is not accrate. So there are many disadvantages of using this website; namely, Wikipedia gives us untrue information, this Wikipedia does not help students with academic work, and this website should not be trusted.

First, as we know Wikipedia has a lot of information, and many people just can go and use this information, whther the information is true or not. According to J, Wolverton, (2007, para 11), "it is not the number of articles available on Wikipedia that is up for debate, though. The argument amongst scholars is that the information available on Wikipedia is not necessarily accurate and that the articles themselves are particularly susceptible to Internet vandalism." Some students use there articles in their homework and in their research paper; that means this website makes the student confused to figure out what the right article is that should they use.

The next reason, as we know most of the people who use Wikipedia are students and teachers; those people have a perch in our community. Those people need a good website to help them in their jobs. On the other hand, when those people use this website they are going to find many articles that people made without using academic words. According to E, Bilodeau (2008, para.8), "Academics who ban students from using the web, Google, Wikipedia, or similar resources are doing those students a grave disservice. Students need to learn how to assess the relevance and authority of information sources independent of their media. They need to learn what constitutes an authorities source, in academia and especially in their field of study. They need to learn how to navigate the complexities and ambiguities of the information at their disposal". So after a while our education will be decreasing, because of this kind of website that gives us bad information. It is Because of this kind of website that makes the students confused, and makes them not really learn as much as the website should that has given them academic work.

Third, Wikipedia is one of the many websites that are trying to help people around the world. We should ask ourselves if Wikipedia is one other kind of Greenwash? As we see many people think that Wikipedia should not be trusted anymore because anyone can go to this website and change the information, some people are doing this for fun. According to N, Martin. (2008, para. 5), "under the current system, anyone can edit at any time, which means that people often post inaccurate and sometimes malicious information." that means this website is not helpful, and the people should not trust any of that information that was writen in this website, because soon they will find some mistakes in this website.

In conclusion, we would like to have a website that anybody can use, but if we want to have a website like this, people should make a good one that has good quality. Wikipedia is one example of those websites that do not have any quality to serve it to the people, because Wikipedia does not help students with academic work, and this website should not be trusted.
